Peer Counseling: Our Approach

Demographic Focus: Our primary target demographic will be young adults with epilepsy transitioning from pediatric to adult care, aged between 18 to 30 years old. This demographic represents an underserved and at-risk group that we aim to support effectively.

Key Program Component: A cornerstone of our approach is offering free mental health peer support counseling in an intimate group setting. These sessions, running over a span of 12 weeks, will provide a platform for connection, understanding, and mutual growth.

Session Management: Ensuring relatability and empathy, each group session will be facilitated by a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Peer Counselor, both of whom have personal experience living with epilepsy.

Our Values

Paying It Forward: We champion the idea of 'giving back' to the community. To this end, we will encourage those who have benefited from our counseling services to become peer counselors, creating a cycle of support and growth.

Joy and Hope: Amidst the challenges faced, we believe in the resilience and spirit of our community. We strive to cultivate an environment radiating joy, hope, and humor, reminding everyone that living with epilepsy does not preclude a fulfilling and joyful life

Program Timeline

Our inaugural group counseling program is set to launch in the third quarter of the year, with a thorough evaluation to follow in the fourth quarter. This will allow us to reflect on our impact, learn from our experiences, and continually improve our services.
