Sunday Mens Support Group

Led by Austin at 6 PT/9 ET

The YAWE Men’s Group, led by Austin, is a place for young men with epilepsy to come together, connect, and support one another.

Just like our other YAWE groups, the format is open and friendly — but this group also makes space for conversations about experiences that are unique to men. It’s a welcoming community where guys can share, listen, and know they’re not alone.

Upcoming Topics

November 2: Anger, Stress, and Control
What do we do with anger, fear, or frustration at our bodies, at doctors, at people who don’t get it? How do we handle stress without letting it build up and turn into burnout, isolation, or shutdown? What actually helps us feel in control again when everything feels out of our hands?

November 9: Medication, Side Effects, and Masculinity
How do meds and side effects impact things like energy, mood, sexual function, physical performance, or memory, and what does that do to how we feel about ourselves as men? How do we advocate for ourselves with doctors without feeling weak, dramatic, or difficult, and what has worked when pushing for changes?

November 16: Safety, Independence, and Trust
How do we build a life where people trust us to live our own lives, driving, going out, dating, traveling, drinking, working, without being treated like we are fragile? Where is the line between I am being careful and I feel trapped, and how do we set boundaries so people respect both our safety and our freedom?

November 23: Mental Health, Loneliness, and Not Shutting Down
What do we do when it gets dark, shame, isolation, not wanting to talk, not wanting to be seen having a seizure, not wanting to be a problem? How do we stay connected without feeling like we are dumping on people? What keeps us steady, and what are the signs we need real help instead of just toughing it out?

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to have my camera on?

While we would love to see your beautiful face, there is no pressure to have your camera on. We want this to be a safe space for you.

If I share, will it remain private?

Yes! If you decide to share with the group know that it will remain between us. We never record our group discussions and don't share your information.

Do I have to share?

No! While we would love to hear your story and experiences, you are not required to share during the call. Many participants will sit and listen in to the group discussion. Let your facilitator know you prefer to pass and you're all set!
